I used Virginia-based Notarize
Posted by  Michelle/AL of AL on 2/6/16 3:02pm Msg #545531
To answer a question in the previous thread, the venue that was used on my form was the notary's venue. I left that section blank on purpose just to see what the notary would do.

Yes, I paid $25 last night to use Notarize because I wanted to have a thorough understanding about what they actually do versus what they say they can/will do. It was very interesting.

I got a good chuckle when the VA notary asked me to turn my iPhone around the room I was seated in so that she could see if anyone was present, trying to coerce me to sign. So I panned from left to right. She told me she needed to she entire room so I did a full sweep of the living room. She didn't ask me to point the camera behind a chair or underneath the sofa (smile).

The VA notary told me I was her first live customer - and it showed. She was nervous and she couldn't answer some of my questions. She used a script. She knew the form was a jurat and issued the oath.

I'm not here to bash Notarize. My signature was notarized correctly. I now have the form in my possession. These folks are on to something. My gut tells me this is here to stay. I may be wrong and I hope I am. But as a small business owner, with 1/3 of my income coming from notary work, I consider them to be my competition. I get a lot of business travelers calling me for GNW. I think they would love this service especially since they're open 24/7.
