Bizzare:
Got home last night after a hectic signing day/night up here in the Rockies. Get a call exactly at 9 p.m. from Notarize 24/7. Can I do an emergency signing 25 miles away? Immediately! Poor woman just discovered if she doesn't sign tonight, she'll have to pay $1,800 or something like that. (I'm thinking her LO just figured out it was the last day to sign and wanted his commission and/or if she didn't sign tonight she'd have to pay another month on her current mortgage. Whatever.) Before I could even respond, he blurted out that he'd pay me extra big money. I asked what his idea of extra big money was and he said $150. I was not impressed, but said yes, anyway (thinking that this woman is gonna have to meet me somewhere along the route cos I'm not roaming the hills at 10 at night looking for her mountain getaway). BTW: A look at Notarize 24/7 in SC, reveals they pay atrociously low fees, so to him $150 was probably breaking the bank. OK, so everything's set. He confirms my e-mail; I acknowledge I'll send them my background check, commission, etc. over the weekend. Good to go.
So, 15 minutes later, I'm still waiting for job confo and docs. 9:30 pm ticks by. Nothing. I call the number he called from (949-777-5500; Irvine, CA); rings and rings, get the runaround VM. Finally, at 10 pm (at which time I wouldn't have gone anyway, even if docs had arrived then) I give it up.
Only thing I can figure is that he decided he didn't like me after all, or he had calls out to other NSAs who were busy busy busy like we all were this week, and finally one called back right after he called me and said they'd do it for cheapo. But he didn't even call me back to say get lost. This was such bad form, I was actually wondering if it was a hoax? Or was the poor scheduler mugged after he called me? Did their internet and phone service go out? Earthquake? Mudslide? Fire? Did his girlfriend drop by and he got seriously distracted? Was he hungry and went out for Chinese? Or just another scummy SS? |
