Agree with the others. IMO, this is an entirely lender-specific issue. I also used to see this a lot with Wells Fargo, but they're not the only ones. I've also seen a redraw called for.

I'd have done exactly what you did: verify what client wants, then do what they say (as long as they don't ask us to fudge the true date of the signing).
