Good points brought up by all but as far as CA going down the remote notarization path, I personally believe that's in the distant future. In addition to the software needed for the notary to go remote, we would need software for an electronic journal and thumbprints for POAs and docs affecting real property. We're required to keep a journal - within the notary's exclusive control. How can the notary keep exclusive control of electronic journal and electronic thumbprints?
Msg #601654 does well to highlight the other issue of the CA recorders offices spending monies for the software/security that would allow them to accept remotely notarized deeds. This state is always screeming "broke" so I don't see the powers that be spending any monies for such software/security to for remote notarizations. I'd be very surprised if it happened before the year 2040. JMHO |
