On a few occasions, I've been asked to administer an oath to a person giving a deposition or making some kind of verbal appearance by phone before a judge. It's been a while, so I don't remember what I researched at the time, but I do recall a key part of my responsibility was to check ID to make sure that the person before me was, in fact, the person the judge was expecting to hear from. In fact, in at least one of those cases, that was one of the questions the court clerk asked of me before they proceeded, and I believe the question and my response was recorded into the record, based on the formality of the exchange.
This may involve a different type of situation than what you're talking about (and I'm about to leave, so no time to do any checking), but just wanted to put this out there. |
