You handled it properly. Sometime you can call the SS or hiring party and let them know what is happening. Some may pay you more, but if a good client, I wouldn't ask for more money. Just have to rearrange like you did, or if impossible, tell them you will be back after that next closing to resume the closing. It's not fair to make other's wait or sometime impossible if a purchase and needs to be funded.
I get this about 3-4 times a year...it would be nice for a head's up of medical conditions that slow down a closing or the angry types.
