In the past several months, there's been a big increase in suspicious emails from unknown parties trying to get notaries to click on a link by dangling a carrot, i.e. presumably offering a bigger than usual fee (for most) for some vague assignment that doesn't really exist. Click on the link and you've invited some kind of malware, ransomware, or who knows what else into your computer. (Perhaps 'just' access to documents that should be secure.)

We ALWAYS need to be extra careful about clicking on links OR opening any attachments (which, of course, is a common way of getting a virus into someone's pc). Usually they send these out to lots of people at once, so if there's ever any doubt, this is a great place to come to find out. BTW, some of these operators masquerade as real people from real companies, so receiving something not expected can be another red flag.
