Trump's first 100 days
Posted by MikeC/TX of TX on 4/23/17 7:32pm Msg #70103
After making a promise before the election that he would advance 10 major pieces of legislation in his first 100 days in office, Trump now thinks 100 days is a "ridiculous standard". Maybe the fact that he has accomplished none of what he promised has something to do with that change of heart, but if he thought it was ridiculous, why did he use it to frame the beginning of his Presidency?

He claims to have done more in his first 90 days than any other President, but that is demonstrably untrue - FDR, who established the 100-day standard, had 17 significant bills passed in his first 100 days. Trump has zero, and although he has signed a lot of Executive Orders, most of them didn't do much more than to instruct other departments to review existing regulations. His travel ban EO has been stalled by the courts twice - how is that a win? The AHCA which was supposed to repeal and replace the ACA was withdrawn before it could be voted on - how is that a win?

The only significant thing he has accomplished so far was to get Gorsuch approved for SCOTUS - and even that was mostly the work of Mitch McConnell, who had to change Senate rules to get it done. Trump grabs credit for things that go right and assigns blame for things that go wrong - he never, ever, EVER accepts responsibility for a failure. He is coming out of his first 100 days with nothing to show for his efforts other than an assist on Gorsuch, and because he failed to deliver on his promises it's now a "ridiculous standard".

44 months of this nonsense to go...
