Fascinating factoids for today

1) WAPO reported this afternoon that at least four Trump Golf Resorts have a framed Time Magazine cover from 2009 hanging on their wall, featuring Trump as the cover story.

Problem: it's a fake. Trump never appeared on the cover of Time in 2009, and the editor who worked on that particular issue confirmed that the real cover story was about Kate Winslet. WAPO further determined that the barcode printed on the fake cover was actually for a karaoke software package (?). Time Magazine has confirmed that the covers are fake and requested that they be removed; no response yet from the Trump Organization.

2) During today's WH Press Briefing, Sarah Huckleberry Sanders was taken to task by a reporter who lit into her for complaining about fake news, saying that the American public had the right to not read or listen to news they thought was fake, but that wasn't the choice when it came to what the WH was spewing. To paraphrase, he said "We're working really hard to report the news and they don't have to read us, but you have 4 years where you can't be turned off and they believe whatever you say".

That reporter was Brian Karem. You probably haven't heard of him - he's the White House reporter for Playboy Magazine. That's right, Playboy has a WH Press Pass. Probably not that surprising since others such as Breitbart and Infowars also have WH press passes... Regardless, Brian said what the others in the room were thinking. The WH is trying to crush press freedom by restricting media access to Trump and his press office, limiting the number of on-camera and on-the-record press briefings, while at the same time funneling all they want to get out to Twitter and the uber-friendly Fox News (aka, State TV). This is not what our Founders had in mind when they approved the First Amendment.
