Re: Checking accounts for non-profits

I was president of our mortgage association for several years. First thing -

- Try to keep the Secretary Treasurer the same as long as possible. They should obviously one of the main signatories. The president next.

- Whenever we changed presidents or secretaries, yes, we had to all go into the bank and change the signature cards.

- We had an issue once where we couldn't get one of the signers off. The bank allowed us to use a letter from the board of directors (pres, vp and secretary all had to sign) and we were able to remove the person that way.

Ask if they will accept that. If you don't have a board, get one. Volunteer work is not always easy nor fun, but rewarding and useful. I have read some of your other volunteer activities. But in the case of a committee or an association, make sure the bank you work with will accept this method.

We have also closed a checking account and gave the secretary permission to take all the money out. Pretty much kills the deal for the bank.
