It's disingenuous to claim that the "Dixiecrats" who supported the erection of these Confederate monuments during the Jim Crow years represent the Democratic Party today. Those Dixiecrats became Republicans - it's why the South turned Red.

The monuments have to go, not destroyed but moved to a cemetery or a museum where they become a part of a history lesson. These monuments honor traitors to America and have no reason to be displayed in a public place. Confederate soldiers are NOT US veterans - they were traitors, and deserve to be treated as such.
