Trump said in a tweet today that everything is going well, and FEMA has inspected all the buildings in San Juan. When questioned by reporters, the governor basically said he had no idea what Trump was talking about and that he was unaware of any inspections. Trump just makes stuff up - whatever is in his head falls out of his mouth, and then his staff has to do an Irish Riverdance to defend it.
It may be weeks before teams are able to get up into the mountains and check the smaller towns and villages. God only knows what they'll find when they get there.
And Trump spent another day on the golf course today. This from a guy who said while campaigning that he expected to be too busy to find time for golf. He did manage to find time to tweet out more insults, referring to the people such as Mayor Cruz who were calling for more assistance as "politically motivated ingrates". He is so thin-skinned that every criticism is taken as a personal attack, and he can't stop himself from lashing out repeatedly in response - he has the impulse control of a two-year-old.
The head of FEMA today say that this has been the most logistically difficult event in US history. Really? What about D-Day? Or the Berlin airlift? Those weren't exactly cake walks. But you're doing a heckuva job, Brownie...
I can understand why people who have lived there all their life are reluctant to leave, but there are many who are leaving with no plans to go back because there's nothing to go back to. The only benefit they have is that as citizens they are free to relocate to anywhere on the mainland - they will not be treated as refugees.
"I recently read a bulletin from FEMA saying that they do not have accurate flood maps? I stopped reading, it just pissed me off. WTF. Really? "
Really. FEMA did not have accurate flood maps for Houston, either. That's the major reason why most Houston homeowners who were affected by the floods from Harvey did not have flood insurance - it's not required if you're not in a FEMA-specified flood zone. |
