The reports I've seen are that the explosives were at his home, not at the hotel. Which still begs the question - why did he have explosives?

That's a mystery - I just read that they also found a sledgehammer that he supposedly used to break the windows - you don't carry this kind of stuff in an overnight bag or a suitcase. Possibly multiple trips through the lobby with a duffle bag? I'm not sure how much the average gun weighs, but I don't think you can carry 20 of them plus ammo and a sledgehammer on one trip unless you have heavy luggage that the bellhops take care of. The fact remains that he somehow managed to get an arsenal of weapons into that hotel suite, and nobody noticed.

Questions that may never be answered...
