What's interesting is that some of the politicians who are for the FCC's proposed rollback of net neutrality have absolutely no idea what it is. The attitude in some cases seems to be, "It came from Obama, so it has to go", with not even an attempt to understand the factors surrounding it. For instance, Ted Cruz came out in favor of eliminating net neutrality by calling it "Obamacare for the Internet" - either not knowing or not caring that it was no such thing. I guess the fact that he was getting campaign contributions from the telecoms didn't have much to do with his opinion...
As the article also points out, Pai's main argument - that net neutrality negatively affects the expansion of internet infrastructure - is a lie, and he knows it because he was a lawyer for Verizon. While Verizon did oppose the net neutrality regulation in court, a senior executive later said that net neutrality would have zero impact on their plans for infrastructure - they intended to continue building out with or without it.
