A distinction without a difference
Posted by MikeC/TX of TX on 1/16/18 6:19pm Msg #71411
Much has been said and written about Trump's alleged reference to Haiti and African and Hispanic countries as "s***holes".

One Democratic Senator who was in the meeting acknowledged that that was the language he used. Two Republican Senators who were also there said at first that neither of them could recall him using that term, then came back a day later to say that he definitely did not use that term, and accused the Democrat of lying.

Today, three WH aides threw these two under the bus by telling reporters that these Senators said they heard him say "s***house" rather than "s***holes" - which the Senators apparently thought gave them cover to deny the whole thing and demonstrate their fealty to Trump.

What's the difference? The message delivered is the same.

One of those Senators, Tom Cotton, has been a Trump loyalist from the beginning and is reported to be angling for a Cabinet position. What better way to make your case than to lie about what happened in order to protect him?

So now they've both permanently damaged their credibility and hopefully their future careers in the Senate. Because you KNOW the fact that they lied to protect the President is going to come up in their next election campaign.

Note to Tom Cotton: as others have learned, loyalty to this WH goes only in one direction - up. You WILL be sacrificed if and when it suits their purpose.
