Much like the Nunes memo itself, there are inaccuracies and misleading statements in this opinion piece.

First of all, the Steele dossier was NOT the only evidence used to obtain a FISA warrant, nor was the dossier in its entirety used. Parts of it have been corroborated, and those are the items that were used as part of the evidence for the warrant. The warrant request also clearly said that the evidence was obtained from a political entity, something Nunes himself has admitted, although he claims it was in smaller type. That's an interesting statement, considering that Nunes admits to never having actually seen the FISA warrant. Two people on that committee have seen it - Trey Gowdy and Adam Schiff. Both have said that the dossier was not the sole reason for the warrant; Gowdy went so far as to say there would have been an investigation without it.

If you read the memo, you'll see that there's nothing there. It's all conjecture with no facts to back it up, written by people who never actually saw the underlying documentation. That's like writing a book report without having read the book. And buried on the last page of the memo is the admission that the investigation was started not because of the dossier, but because George Papadopoulos got drunk one night and talked about the Russians having Clinton's emails.

Adam Schiff, who HAS actually seen the underlying documents, wrote the rebuttal memo that Trump refuses to release for "national security reasons" and has demanded redactions. Yet he released the Nunes memo without redactions over the objections of DOJ and the FBI about inaccuracies, reportedly without even bothering to read it. Neither the FBI nor the DOJ, both of which have seen it, is challenging the Schiff memo.

So now you have to either believe that there is this vast "deep-state" conspiracy that involves departments such as the DOJ and the FBI that are led by Republicans appointed by this president, that involves FISA court judges appointed by the Chief Justice of SCOTUS - also a Republican - all of whom did nothing to prevent his election but are now somehow trying to depose him. EVERY SINGLE PERSON involved in a significant way in this investigation is a Republican, and most of them were appointed to their positions by Trump.

Or you can abandon the Fox News conspiracy theories and ask a simple question - what is Trump trying to hide? Why is he unwilling to allow the release of Schiff's memo when he didn't care at all about the warnings from his own people about the Nunes memo?
