It wasn't intended to be a generalization, I misunderstood your post and didn't word my answer correctly. My bad, and I apologize for the confusion.
For the record, the only weapons I'm opposed to are semi-automatic assault-type weapons like the AR-15. I'm not one of those who believe that all guns should be banned - they have a purpose whether it's hunting, other sport, or personal protection. I don't believe - and no one will ever convince me otherwise - that the AR-15 type rifles fit into any of those categories.
I believe that reasonable regulation is necessary, in the form of universal background checks and mandatory waiting time before a gun purchase can be completed. I don't think a ban on AR-15's will lead to a ban on every gun - that's just NRA propaganda. Several states already have a ban on AR-15's, and it was banned by federal law from 1994-2004 - there was no move to include other guns. During that 10-year period, the number of mass shootings dropped dramatically. And after the ban was not renewed in 2004, the number of mass shootings went up 200%
No one is coming for your guns. All we're asking for is responsible gun ownership and reasonable regulation. |
