gun manufacturers who produce the civilian equivalent of a military assault rifle such as the AR-15. They're not cutting off ALL gun manufacturers, just those who produce guns like the AR-15 for civilian use.
As far as I can tell from the announcement, this was not the result of the recent advertising boycott campaigns. As far as I know, no group has gone after the gun manufacturers or those who finance them, and I doubt it would work if they did. Someone at BoA decided it didn't make sense for them to be in that space anymore.
A week or so ago, Remington - one of the oldest American gun manufacturers - filed for bankruptcy, citing heavy debts, falling sales and the potential for adverse court rulings stemming from the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre. Their plan is to allow the creditors to take over the operation of the company, so they will still make guns and the employees will continue to get paid, but they can shield themselves from any Sandy Hook court rulings. If you're a lender, would you continue to lend money to a company in this situation? |
