Even our President doesn't seem to understand that Puerto Rico is part of America. I think there are some Americans who are totally ignorant of the fact that "America" extends beyond the 50 states, and that there are residents of several countries that are American citizens by birth even though they were not born within the states.
I've always felt that PR, at least should be granted statehood, but many on the island don't want it. That's similar to Hawaii, where any f the natives didn't want or ask for statehood, The history of Hawaii and the US is an interesting read - we overthrew a monarchy there in order to gain control. |
