A lot of media outlets that used to be considered somewhat middle of the road, such as this one, pull these kinds of stunts because they incorrectly believe it is a chance to "get" either Repubs or Trump and are too blinded by their own bias that they don't realize that doing so does nothing but give Trump another 100% truthful claim of "Fake News" that gives Trump's fake news claims credibility.

It is one thing to be mistaken because of incorrect information given to a news organization during the airing of a segment that happens to slip past the host, it is quite another for a news organization to refuse to do their own research on the topic because the false information fits their well known agenda.
The fact that the host had publicly acknowledged via Twitter after the Sunday interview that he was wrong (about the disagreement) and that the Senator was, in fact, correct apparently was not even enough for CNN to be honest (not to mention, CNN has the ability to research topics on their own, or at least they should). It's not like this very topic has not been brought up multiple times over the last 3-4years by itself.
It doesn't take a political partisan to acknowledge that the vast majority of our U.S. media today is politically agenda driven (either pro or anti a person's own view, doesn't matter) and so far from deserving the "respect" most of them are demanding they be shown by politicians and the public.
