Seeing this auction report on the news earlier this month didn't make me think too much; but reading the article below . . . Authentic (artist) painting that really isn't an "authentic" (portrayal). Some kind of Masterful irony in this depiction.
Amazing ideas people buy into - at the cost of millions of dollars!
I'm guessing the real Jesus - sturdy, dynamic, full of perfect stamina, and rather ordinary looking with an award-winning smile - (not of the Byzantinean imagination) would have fed millions with that money. Well, almost. He'd likely make his own dough.
