After 1 1/2 years I am doing first GNW today

Had people call before but never willing to pay $25 driving fee plus $10 per stamp. Did have one pay me for some non loan notarizations while doing a refi, but never a pure GNW. Thanks to reading the posts on NR I have some idea what to look out for, ie get paid in cash up front. Not getting a lot of money but not printing, only 2 notarizations, close by, cash up front. So we will see how this goes. Maybe it will spark me to try and do more GNW. In this slow loan mkt it would be nice to branch out to GNW.

I enjoy GNW. I always keep it local and charge $15.00 travel/time and $10 for the first stamp and $5.00 for additional. I decided to advertise in the phone book this year, due to the age of the residents in my county, and it has already paid off. Good luck to you!

What distance do you travel for 25.00?

You would have to decide on your own travel fees to fit your area, etc. It is not a one size fits all.

I do, however, I am just curious how far most drive for a 25.00 travel fee. I charge 25.00 only for my city. As I drive farther out I charge more.

Traveled a little over 30 miles today from home for gnw for a company exec. *
Living on border of multiple counties, it is not hard to do; although, I generally don't go that far for gnw.

I generally have business to attend to in every county (I've lived in all 4 over 35 years) - so I always seem to find another "excuse" to be there (running errands, banking, marketing, visiting sick folk, meeting friends halfway for dinner, etc.). By chance today my mom was actually at a doctor's appt. nearby, so I saw her briefly before they made the hour drive back home!

*Fortunately, it was 4 notarizations/jurats to make it worth it Wink

Re: Follow up, it went well but the 90+ year

old person signing understood what he was signing but had a hard time physically signing and it all ended up taking 30 minutes to do two notariaztions as opposed to most my refis taking about 45 minutes. The grandson who wanted the items notarized wanted to tell me the whole history of the situation. Still it was well worth it. The $25 driving fee would cover about 15 miles one way; beyond that it would go up. I've tried to market to senior homes and to small attorneys with no success. The people today "found my name online somewhere," so who knows. Has anyone had any luck with these places you pay to join and they "guarantee" GNW signings?

I had one last night--a couple signing some final papers

for divorce. I quoted him $25, and he gave me $40. I try to keep my fees reasonable--$5/per notarization & minimum of $25 with travel. Tips are always nice.

I agree with Jules that it varies greatly from region to region. My minimum travel fee starts at more than $25 and that's good for only about 4 miles in any direction. It goes up from there. In my area, though, I'm pretty competitive and it's seldom an issue. But everything here costs more.

However, once in a while I run into people who are interested in saving the travel fee so, during business hours, if I'm in the area, I agree to meet them at my local neighborhood coffee/lunch place about 1/2 mi from my home for just the per-signature fee. (That money is enough to pay for my coffee habit... Wink)
