Don't forget the flashlight! walking to and from your car
can be dangerous, especially when leaving a brightly lit home to go to your car. A few years ago I ran into a trailer hitch and tore open a inch size gash on my shin. Took two rounds of antibiotics to cure the skin infection! I now have mini flashlights in the car and in my bag.

Re: I use a flashlight app on my phone.
I use a 4 Dbattery heavy duty flashlight in a steel case. Very strong light and also good personal protection "weapon". Handy to have in some areas of Jersey.

Re: I use a flashlight app on my phone.
I agree, Brenda. (The Android one I have is called "Assistive light" and it puts out a pretty strong beam (from my Galaxy S3). The phone I always have on my anyway, so that's one less item to be hauling around. I do keep a heavy duty maglight flashlight in the car, though, for those hard-to-find house numbers. (The one I bought from Costco years ago came with a smaller version that I've carried with me from time to time, but I like the phone app better.) However, if I'm in a questionable area or have a long walk to someone's apartment or unit, I've been known to carry the big maglight in my hand on the way - and especially the way back.

You'd think some of these borrowers would escort
you back to your car.

Re: Don
Donna, great reminder to be extra aware of your surroundings coming and going from/to your vehicle - for many reasons.
Was not aware of your injury but sounds harsh. I know of another local notary who fell this winter going to her car after a closing. The BO's homeowner's insurance would not pay for her injuries because they said she was being carless!!!
Gotta love it. Be safe out there.
