requirements is that we must purchase our E&O through the NNA to go along with our certification and background checks. Watch and see.

Not unless they are competitively priced. Last renewal I was able to save over 50% on my E&O insurance for $100K. Not sure if this is just CA or not...PM me for details.

Re: Premiums were exact same for AL, but I bought NR anyway

I have been an xyz member since 2002, but bought my last E&O policy (from the same company) through NR. Then XYZ showed my E&O as expired and has refused to correct the information because I has not purchased it from them! I think I have renewed my membership with them for the last time.

I still don't get why notaries think that E&O is the only insurance they need. It's quite limiting. You need general business liability and other policies, too, depending on your business.

I've actually had a TC recently require that they be added as an additional insured on my general business liability policy to cover when I'm working for them on site. It didn't cost me anything extra, and is a very common things done with business policies. In fact, they won't let any independent notaries work on site for them without it now. No, that's NOT E&O.... it's general business liability.

This is done a lot, for example, at farmer's market or convention type places. Individual businesses set up at a show, but as part of participating, they have to add the venue or event organizer as an additional insured for the event.
