RON/IPEN name problems
By VT_Syrup on 10/24/24 11:32am

For rulemaking purposes, I'm interested in any problems notaries have had getting a digital certificate because of their name. For example, on their oath of office they used a character with some kind of accent mark like ñ but you couldn't enter that character when you obtained the digital certificate, or you couldn't enter it when you performed a RON or IPEN.

I'm also interested in middle name problems. For example, your middle name is on your driver license and you were forced to include it in your digital certificate. But on your notary oath of office you didn't use a middle name nor initial so your signature would fit into smaller spaces.

Beware QuickTime Notary
By JMoniqueC on 10/23/24 11:41am

23 years later and I'm still getting surprised that these signing agencies keep finding new lows.

Did a Philips CPAP Document Retrieval for QuickTime Notary that included instructions to proceed to location for a door knock letter if contact couldn't be made. Instructions didn't include any mention that payment wouldn't be made or would be reduced if contact wasn't made or I would have never agreed to the 2 hour drive. When I statused the assignment I received the following message: "Your order is currently in the final stages of review. We’ve placed it on hold temporarily to ensure all details are accurate. We appreciate your patience during this process, and as soon as the hold is lifted, you will receive confirmation that the order has closed."

Fast forward a couple of days and I haven't heard anything so I go back into the Order to find that my fee has been changed from $110 to $25.00. No communication from them, just snuck in and cut my fee. Mileage estimates that it cost me $50 for the travel alone, let alone my time. All requests for them to make this right have been ignored. I reported them to Snapdocs and the Lawyer who they are contracted thru. Will turn them over to my collections agency too. Long story short, don't trust QuickTime Notary.....

IPEN & state notary rules
By VT_Syrup on 10/21/24 1:44pm

Tomorrow is the first hearing about the new Vermont notary rules. The existing rules are emergency RIN rules started during COVID, and continuing education rules. The new rules will allow RON and IPEN.

See https://sos.vermont.gov/notaries-public/statutes-rules-resources/

I'm looking for cases where a client wanted an IPEN, and the format of the finished document WASN'T PDF. Perhaps the finished document was in the Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or AutoCAD format. The reason I ask is that the popular RON platforms only support PDF finished documents. The problem, of course, is if the state rules require using a platform, rather than just a digital certificate, even for IPEN, then anyone who wants a different format can't be served.

United States Notary Association (USNA)
By  James Swofford on 10/21/24 12:24pm

Is anyone out there a member of this group? They keep emailing me to join and get free referrals and 100% of the notary fee. But you have to pay to join this Assn. Are they legit?

What's going on w/ServiceLink & National Link?
By Lee/AR on 10/20/24 11:03am

I see on SC that SL is now a 3* company. Nat'l Link doesn't show up for me. They both use Exos, tho.
National Link has been repeatedly requesting 'updated' credentials, which I keep sending the way they want them. Only to receive another request a month later.

Asking those who do work with either for your opinions, please. Are they worth bothering with?

I guess there is always a first in any business.
By Alz on 10/19/24 7:38pm

Unfortunately, it is not the type of first, I would ever wish for. IMJS.

Apparently, there was a breakdown in communication with me, myself, and I. As one of us forgot to reorder notary journals when the last one was pulled from the supply’s cabinet. Additionally, no one recognized that I was on page 118 of the journal on Friday morning. Until of course a client made mention of it. Imagine the various thoughts going on in my head, with a smile on my face.

Oh, yeah. Yesterday I finally took the liberty to order 20 notary journals, Theses should last me a good while, considering that my last order for 20 was in 2019. Admittedly, I forgot about the years of abundance. Therefore, my calculations are probably skewed. Years of abundance, you say. 2020 to 2022/2023. - IMJS

Unbelievable, as of this post, I only have four available entries on page 122 to last until Wednesday. Agh! Any problem solvers out there? What would you do?

United Wholesale Mortgage, LLC--various middlemen--HEADS UP!
By Lee/AR on 10/17/24 1:24pm

No place to rate a Lender... So-- Large Packages 150-200 pages, they try to go very cheap for work involved, their docs are not the greatest, so you have to WATCH that the name/s typed on the doc & in the N. Cert are the same or even there. i.e., both to sign, but only 1 name pre-printed in N. Cert. They pre-print some; not others. Just have to be on alert with everything. Legal description often missing. On the plus side, docs usually are early enough to let you look 'em over for these errors.

Signature Closers in Ohio -- G/B/U? TIA!
By Yoli/CA on 10/12/24 11:34am

Yes, I looked in SC. But, reviews vary greatly. Anyone know what their pay schedule is? Their website says they pay twice a month.

They sent a blast text for $85 for refi w/scans yesterday. I countered w/$250. After a couple of hours, they accepted my full fee. Apparently, there was another notary originally assigned (contacted borrowers). Don't know what happened there.

Refurbished printer website recommendation appreciated.
By Susan/CA on 10/10/24 11:26am

Well 3 of my 4 printers are no longer working properly. Years and years ago I used to buy printers off a refurbished printer website, however I do no remember the name. I tried a search online but I have not found one. Can anyone recommend a refurbished printer website? Thank you in advance!
