"Coronavirus" isn't a single virus, but a category of viruses, some of which have been around for quite a while. COVID-19 is the "novel" (or new) strain that has been recently circulating.
Here's a definition I found: "Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are known to cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)."
I've also heard that this new strain may also be mutating, so there could be several versions. There's still so much unknown, but new information is being learned every day... |
