Colorado Remote Notarization Working Group 2017
Posted by ABC Legal Docs, LLC - Jerry Lucas on 1/26/19 6:42pm

In 2017, the Colorado SOS formed a Remote Notarization Working Group comprised of Senator Bob Gardner, and representatives from banking, real estate, title companies, the Colorado Bar Association, notaries, and Michael Chodos, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Notarize.

They met monthly for four months, reviewing and discussing remote notarization laws of other states (MT,NV,TX,VA) to draft a proposal for Colorado. In 2018, the resulting SB 18-109 passed the Senate but not the House, when privacy advocates including the ACLU opposed it.

Senator Gardner is also the sponsor of the new bill, SB 19-084, Revised Uniform Law Remote Notarization.
