I'm not going to bother commenting on most of your post, but I have to disagree with this statement: "It's about protecting yourself and feeling comfortable."
The mask you wear does precious little to protect you (unless you have a high quality, filtered mask like the N95). It primarily protects others from the fine aerosol particulates that get released from your mouth and nose when you breath, and even more when you talk, and more still if you sneeze and/or cough. The primary protection you get is from they mask THEY wear, which protects you from what might come out of their mouths from their breathing, talking, coughing, sneezing.
That's why wearing masks is widely considered to be the most effective preventive step (after staying home) that the public can do. Spread is considerably lessened when we have each other's back. BTW, I've heard some (as yet unproven) speculation that indoor A/C may be a contributing factor, given that the highest spread now seems to be in hot south and southwestern states. That's a question that will be interesting to watch.
