Interesting perspective. However, I suspect that if RON takes over, "in-person assistance" may not become unprofitable for everyone. It might just cull the field of notaries enough to leave a niche for the few who can still make it profitable. (OR is that wishful thinking...?  )
I suspect there will always be some people who won't feel comfortable with RON or who will want or need an in-person option. For the notary who wants to occupy that niche, finding those people - or more importantly enabling them to find you - would be the challenge. Plus, a chunk of those folks for whom RON isn't an option because of lack of tech access will probably balk at a reasonable fee for an in-person notary.
It'll be interesting to see what happens if/when RON-notarized documents end up in court some day, or worse yet, a platform company gets hacked or commits fraud. I'm beginning to think that even that might not do much to stop it or even slow it down, to my chagrin... But time will tell.
