You are so right - it happens frequently & at a much higher cost to all parties when all is said and done. I really do think these signing services that low-ball notaries will get exactly what they pay for. But in the end- it's the borrowers that pay the price, the signing service's client (the lender, escrow or title company) isn't happy - so they'll end up going somewhere else.
