Even though we're not consumer advocates, I believe we do have a responsibility to take steps in helping to protect the public from scams. The CFPB and the FTC are good places to start for educating ourselves. A few years ago I was unaware of the rules that are set for loan modification assistance, such as no up-front fees. Becoming more educated on consumer fraud issues has helped me to weed out those SS companies that I consider sell outs. It's too bad that there isn't a required certification for consumer fraud. Notaries are very involved, and many either don't care or their uneducated.
