Tru Red Ballpoint Gripped Pen. $1.29 for a dozen. This is a Staples brand and can be found at Staples and Quill. Very inexpensive, writes smoothly. The only drawback is there's no warning when it's running out of ink. It lasts a long time but when it runs out, it just stops writing.
