Re: The elimination of mobile notaries
Posted by  Cheryl Elliott of CA on 5/21/20 1:03pm Msg #620356
Notaries are like lambs being led to slaughter. We have been for decades...no going back. Things are good right now. CA is the hold out state. 58 counties, county recorders will be slow to sign up. CA in a deficit now, our budgets are in the toilet. We've got some time, but as Matt says, in a couple of years it's all over for the mobile notary.

I misspoke earlier, and I apologize to Linda Landry, who seems to be dialed in early with title and lenders in Houston, TX. I don't get this feedback from my title/lenders here on the Central Coast. Of course, we should all be in the "know". Frankly, it makes me sick that this is all about big $$ to corporations, and we're being wiped out as a vital part of the verification/notarization process, eliminating the in-person appearance and encounter. This is progress? I wonder if RON eNotaries can be compensated fairly for all the for maintaining video and electronic journal entries for 10 years. Since we're not in the know, I think we should be curious, investigative and receiving the straight scoop.

This vocation has been a career for me. I'll do this as long as there is a demand, but who knows how long that will be. Start looking at your future.

The scary thing to me about RON and the parties involved, making all the rules, is the nondisclosure of costs to do this business and all the responsibility/liability without knowing the true revenue possible, and is it worth the time, expense. What's so intriguing about being nailed to your chair all day. The things I enjoy about this work are the people, homes, businesses I encounter all day along the way in some of the most beautiful country in CA, the ambience and variety. I have great clients and lots of repeat business with companies for decades. This is all about to change in the next few years.

Time to re-engineer ourselves, yet one more time. What's the next step? Something more fun than dealing with deadbeat signing services, late docs, low fees, non payment issues.

BTW, had a pavaso platform signing yesterday, borrowers could not successfully navigate online. I have already been told I'd get a defect if borrower doesn't complete the pavaso document review and acceptance the same day they sign paper docs I bring to them. Turns out pavaso was down yesterday. Brings a lot of stress and angst to notary and the borrowers. I have less hair and less enjoyment in my job. These events are out of my control.

Also got to the signing of a high end borrower and the CD over stated cash to close by $8375 for impounds, which they did not want. That's a pretty significant error, right? Can't get to title cuz they are in bed by this time. Called LO and he was completely embarrassed. We fixed it at the table. Business is built on referrals, right? Not a good thing to have happen to LO's valued client.
