I agree with Lee/AR and VT_Syrup. Plus, the possibility (or probability?) those databases, and especially ones storing the data and video from RON notarizations, getting hacked.
I also just read the email from NNA about the RON hearing. Apparently they claimed they aren't taking a position on the issue - except that they're opposed to the part that allows CA to reject notarizations done by notaries in other states for people who are located in CA. That was the one feature that allowed CA officials to maintain CA standards for notarizations. That could use some tweaking, but without that feature, I think the rest of the safeguards are pretty meaningless.
Also, has anyone had the chance to review the bill again to see if, in fact, the bill requires the use of a platform, as Brenda pointed out?
I'd also love to see the issue of foreign passports eventually get addressed, although that's not RON related. The way our current law reads, when it comes to acceptable IDs, foreign passports are listed under the section that requires them to contain a physical description, which almost none have.
