You were SO totally correct, in fact, you'd be negligent if you just looked at it in the wallet.
I don't know about CA, but a genuine NYS i.d. has a sand-papery surface over the center of the picture side of the i.d. Also, a genuine NYS i.d. can be folded in half and then reverts to its original shape when you release it. Without performing such an inspection, an i.d. could easily be a reproduction.
I explain this to borrowers at closings as I examine their i.d.'s.
As for the wife's comment, I'd reply, "Yes it's very easy, that's why I have been sent to correct the first notary's errors. Not only is it easy but you get to meet such nice people all the time!" :-D |
