Need your opinion on my closing today - sorry long
Posted by  Mary Pierce of PA on 3/31/06 4:40pm Msg #110129
I had a purchase closing this morning for an attorney's office in Phila. They represented the seller which was a relocation company. The buyer was up my way in NE PA. Anyway, I did work for this attorney before and the last time they sent me a package with detailed instructions. This time they didn't. The last closing I handled for them was over 6 months ago and I guess they figured I knew the routine or remembered it. Well all I could remember was that I was suppose fax stuff back to them after the closing and then send checks back to them and that's it. Well they wanted me to call them with the bottom line on the HUD before it was signed. The secy at the buyer's attorney faxed them a copy of the HUD prior to the closing starting. The seller's attorney's office made some changes, faxed it back to the buyer's attorney and she made the changes so we figured it's a go. Nooooooooooooo......when the closing was over I was to fax the HUD, a copy of the proceeds check and a couple more papers telling them it was closed. That's all I knew about. About 10 minutes later the closer at the seller's attorney's office calls me and asked me what I was doing. She said that HUD isn't approved yet...they can't sign the HUD until so and so approves it. You were supposed to call me and give me the total. Well geez...she had the total because the buyer's attorney faxed it to her an hour ago. What the heck. She lays into me and say I should have knew what I was doing. Well geez that was about 8 months ago I did the last job for them. I had not detailed instructions from her except instructions on the fax cover sheet said when finished fax this and that to me. I did that. Make a long story short, the buyer already left, the attorney was on her way out to court and the girl was screaming at me saying the signed HUD I had was null and void and that she had to get approval. Meantime, I work a FT job for an attorney and he was gracious enough to let me come in late today to handle this closing. I figured an hour tops. Nope, I didn't leave that office until 11:30 - the closing was for 9. I sat there for 1.5 hours waiting for this girl to call me to tell me if the HUD was approved. She did not want me to leave. I kept calling her everey half hour and she had no news for me. Meanwhile the buyer's attorney was gone, the buyer was gone. I fianlly called her and said I have to go. I was expected at work and hour ago. She said if the HUD is not approved we have to do this again. I almost wanted to tell her what she could do with her HUD. She finally told me I could leave and she'd call me at work. Thankfully she calls me an hour later after I got to work and says the HUD is approved. Who is she kidding...I would have sat there almost 2 hours to begin with with the buyer and their attorney waiting for the seller's side to approve the HUD. Anyway, was I in the wrong? When I finally got to work I told my boss about it and he couldn't believe all the crap I went through. Never again will I work for this company and I told the girl that next time she sends a package to someone she could of atleast put clearer instructions in there.
