I took another look at the notary certificate. The signers' names are "Charles Edward / Javon Renard Wilson". That is, the first and middle name of the grantor, and the full name of the grantee. To me, the handwriting in the grantor's name looks a little different than the name of the grantee, so perhaps it was added later. The notary neglected to fill in "he" or "they" in the phrase "acknowledged to me that ____ executed the same".
But that doesn't change my basic point: Florida doesn't give notaries any guidance whether the can refuse to perform a notarization because it just doesn't seem right. In my state, the law is clear that I can refuse to perform a notarial act unless the refusal is against some state law outside the notary law, such as a law against religious or racial discrimination. |
