What is it called when a notarized signature

happens to be in the form of "certifying a true copy"?

A NP certifies the document but is Not notarizing a signature??

I think I get that - as also, VA notaries can "Verify fact" (similar to certifying).
Only in that instance, she *would* be notarizing signature of the one claiming the information to be valid.
