"What can I realistically do that I am not doing to get my first 20 signing jobs?" Pray?
Sorry for being glib... Unfortunately, you're trying to get started at a very difficult time in this business. I've been doing this as my primary source of income for more than 20 years and my phone/inbox is more quiet than I've ever seen it. Any companies that are willing to pay decent fees already have a long list of experienced notaries who are likely to have lots of availability, so anyone without experience is only likely to get it by giving away their services - and no, that's not a recommendation! (I'm sure you didn't get into this field to lose money.)
Maybe it's time to look for something else before sinking any more money into this. If you haven't already, you should probably read up on RON (Remote Online Notarization), which may end up taking over much of the in-person notary work. (Check out the orange Search button on page 1 of this forum.)
In the meantime, it couldn't hurt to keep applying with signing services. A good target audience might be those companies with 3.5 stars in Signing Central. Many of us won't work for those companies, as they probably pay on the low side and may be more of a headache to deal with, but you at least stand a chance of getting some work from them and actually getting paid. I'd avoid the 1 & 2 star companies completely, if you don't want to work for free (and lose money).
Best of luck... |
