I read the post about Florida notary cost so here goes CA costs.
1. Class attendence cost/ notrot/nna/ online/ etc anywhere from $20 to $149.
2. Fingerprints $71 to $80 (fingerprint fee is $51 the rest is profit to fingerprint company).
3. $40 to CA Sec of State
4. Fee for Surety Bond $38 to $ 80 (depending on who you purchase it from).
5. Fee for County Clerk to record Bond ( $40-$80+ depends on county).
6. Journal, seal, fingerprinting device (probably $30+ depending on how well you shop).
You can probably become a CA notary for somewhere between $ 250- $350.
Much more cost than any other state and the one of the reasons we have only 163,000 notaries for a 37 million population.
Also we have a state proctored test every 4 years and I am sure this is one of the reasons we have the fewest notaries per capita!
