It actually was interesting ( in a sad way )how he would quiet his wife not by tellilng her to but by the way he spoke to her.
I do have a soft voice and don't always comeback with quick remarks but I am serious and to the point. My friends use humor to handle situations like that I can't, that is why I asked if I was being anal.
Lynn, I agree with you 100% : "I think that women, particularly, need to work at coming from strength and being in charge as society tends to teach girls/women to be deferential."
I have two daughters, my husband's family ( not just my in-laws) have the traditional Mexican ways about them, not just our rich culture but the" women don't disagree with the man, the man is in charge, etc ways". I have had so many arguments because I "speak up". In addition, many of my husband's clients are also traditional and boy do I hate getting together with them. On top of that add the racism that I've experienced, you bet I don't want my daughters to grow up to be subservient women. |
