I had an experience like that the other day. I was at the local court house (my job brings me there a lot) and my nosy-self overheard a person asking one of the clerks if a notary public was available. The clerk stated that there was not and suggested that he go to the Town Hall down the road.
Before the guy left I approached him and told him that I overheard his conversation. I told him that I was a notary and was able to witness his documents. I did this for free because I didn't have to go anywhere. **Come on! I was bored anyway waiting for the clerk-magistrate!** 
I'm surprised the clerk didn't forward the guys request over to the clerk-magistrate. They are allowed to take acknowledgments too...... hhhmmm.... |
