I think I may save the link to this article for all the times people ask me about becoming a notary or make a comment about what a great 'job' this must be! 
As for being a 'luxury notary'? I commend him for his creativity and for going for a niche market. If the article was really more than tongue-in-cheek, it will naturally need lots of promotion, as does any other niche, but... In the Bay area, people can spend over $1 million for a tear-down, so who knows? If he does go into loan signing, perhaps someone would spend that much to celebrate the purchase of their first home... 
Bottom line, I thought it was a great inside look at the realities of becoming a notary, especially some of the parts that most people aren't aware of. He's a good writer, so if he ever manages to get some real experience under his belt, I'd be interested in reading about his perspective from our side of the fence!
