No wonder we hear complaints and receive e-mails about unprofessional notaries not showing up for appointments or arriving late in beachwear and flip flops with a small child in tow. Being a notary is just another Side Gig!
I remember the days when being commissioned as a Notary Public by my Secretary of State, taking educational classes (not required in CT), meeting with work groups on proper notarization procedures (not required in CT), and holding ourselves out as PUBLIC OFFICIALS was a reputable profession. The pay was low, but we were punctual and professional in our demeanor. It may not have been our whole job, but at least it was considered a "profession".
Today we are relegated to a "side gig" - or is that side hack. No wonder the office of Notary Public is no longer respected, we've been reduced to the ranks of mystery shoppers, envelope stuffers, and recyclable container collectors. Thank you for letter me vent. |
