It is not an exaggeration to say that Notaries Public are often the last line of defense against fraud.
Recently I had a GNW brother of a hospital patient contact me on behalf of the patient. The brother said that the patient had ID. When I arrived, no ID. Brother tried to bribe me.
Last Thursday I called the borrower and went through the usual pre-signing litany: ID, witness, etc. When I got there, no ID. Borrower wanted to use photo of driver's license. (If there's a state that would accept a photo of an ID, then I'd be astounded.) "We're done.", I said. As I was walking to my car, the borrower came out and handed me a cell phone, saying that the Loan Officer wanted to talk to me. The LO tried to talk me into doing the signing! NFW!
Saying "Be professional." to nearly all of you who are here is like telling water "Be wet." Please, new Notaries, don't be bribed or fooled by people who would throw you under the bus in a heartbeat. |
