Been going on for a number of years. Several Google searches. More than 10 years ago, supposedly Publishers Clearinghouse House Sweepstakes called my mom saying she had won but had to pay $5,000, but she wasn’t allowed to tell anyone. With all my mom’s faults, don’t tell her she can’t do something. She told me and I told her not to answer the phone or talk to them. Since I was telling her not to do something, of course, she answered again and called them back as requested. That is when they grabbed her number and began using it ringing up over $1,000 in charges in only a couple of days. Fortunately, I had contacted bank and phone company at the beginning.
This is a phone scam. By answering a call from yourself, they know the number, usually purchased is real. By calling them back, it’s a double plus for them — robo callers,spammers,telemarketers... now they can sell your name and number instead of having CID show anonymous, blocked, etc. Why would anyone answer your phone that shows it is calling itself? |
