I'm reminded of reading about the requirements to get a driver license or non-driver ID in some state or other. If you wanted to do the popular thing, get license/ID for a US citizen, you could go to the nearest DMV, which were all over the state. But if you wanted to do the unpopular thing, get a license/ID for an alien, you have to go to the state capital.
I could see a future where if you are in the majority, that is, you're over the age of 25 or so, been in the country for years, and have a credit history, and if an electronic document will be OK, then you just go online for the notarization.
But if your in the minority, and you just turned 18, or you just immigrated, or you need a paper document, or you just can't handle computers, you find that all the mobile notaries have moved on to other things, and all the places that used to do notarizations don't do it anymore, so you have to go to someplace like the county seat during normal business hours. And if you're bedridden, that's just tough. |
