California notaries undergo a BGC through FBI and DOJ every at the time of application and with each 4 year renewal. At the time this annual thingy started, I questioned those companies requiring it. They all said same thing. Now required. It started with every 2 years -- for about 2 years -- then went to annual. If recollection works this morning, at the beginning, BGC was good through the end of the month of whenever it was issued.
I started with NotRot's BGC and it was accepted by all … for a while. Then, those major TCs decreed that only XYZ or Sterling would be accepted.
Much to be said about XYZ's marketing department and their business development department.
Yeah, I cut it close this year. It was a test. And, it worked (for me). I've no need to pay for less and less each year.
