Agree with Linda and Janet. For your sake and the sake of the principal, it's time to get legal advice. Attorney may also strongly recommend allowing the courts to name a guardian/conservator or to file a petition requesting to be named as such. If the principal is already in the throes of dementia, it's probably too late to get a new power of attorney signed by him.
It's so unfortunate you're having to contend with this only because this wasn't found out earlier while it could still be remedied.
