I had the same issue recently. Some loan officers will sell the loan by telling them that instead of making a mortgage payment, they will bring the payment to closing. Borrowers take this literally but don't have the funds available until the 1st so they want to postdate the check. If the loan needs to fund by the 1st, this will not work.
